The Seattle Seahawks are looking to build off of a successful season as they enter the 2023 offseason, but they may have to do it without one of their top coaches.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, associate head coach and defensive assistant Sean Desai is meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles for the second time in hopes of becoming their next defensive coordinator.

Desai's first interview was virtual and he impressed the Eagles enough to get a second interview, this time in person. He's considered to be a finalist to replace former Eagles DC and current Arizona Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon.

As Rapoport's tweet states, Desai is a disciple of current Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Fangio's defense is one of the more modern defensive systems/philosophies in the NFL and Desai has experience calling plays as a defensive coordinator thanks to his one season as the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator.

Desai did an OK job as the Bears DC in 2021. The unit finished 13th in overall defensive DVOA, with the passing defense being the strength. The run defense struggled under Desai, but the Bears defense suffered numerous injuries that year, including a season-ending injury suffered by Khalil Mack just seven weeks into the season.

Desai's defense is different from the one Gannon employed, but as mentioned earlier, it's the right system for defending today's NFL offenses. The Eagles' process is the correct one, regardless of Desai's limited play-calling experience and so-so season in Chicago.
