Losing the Super Bowl should be plenty of motivation for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.

But just for good measure, the Eagles received some additional motivation on Sunday night thanks to a quote from a Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman.

Chiefs offensive lineman Creed Humphrey told reporters after the game that Kansas City knew they could control the line of scrimmage and the run ball effectively all night against the Eagles.

"We knew we could run the ball on them all night and that was our plan coming in," said Humphrey. "And we did it well. [I'm] proud of how we ran the ball [and] proud of how we protected Pat [Mahomes], too."

"We knew we could control the line of scrimmage tonight," added Humphrey. "We've been hearing all week about how storied the [Eagles] d-line is and things like that and we felt like we weren't getting the respect we deserved. We wanted to go out there and make a statement. We knew what we could do against these guys… we were ready to get after them and show what we can do."

Philadelphia finished the game with zero sacks and only one tackle for loss.

Kansas City finished the game with 158 rushing yards on 26 attempts. Averaging 6.1 yards per rush is usually a recipe for success. And it worked for the Chiefs on Sunday night.

The Eagles' defense needs to take that success personally. They need to use it as fuel for next season.

Because here's the thing — if Philadelphia just gets one or two sacks in that game on a third down, they probably win the game.

I know the focus will be on the holding call late in the fourth quarter that essentially sealed the game for the Chiefs, but if Philly's pass rush has a good night, that holding call doesn't matter.

One of the Eagles' biggest strengths failed them in Super Bowl LVII. If they want to avenge the loss, they have to find a way to not it let happen again next season.
