The Philadelphia Eagles are on the verge of receiving significant reinforcements at just the right time.

On Wednesday, the team announced that it had opened the 21-day practice window for S C.J. Gardner-Johnson, DE Robert Quinn and OL Brett Toth.

Gardner-Johnson’s highly-anticipated return gives the Eagles’ secondary a much-needed boost if he can make his way back before the team’s first postseason matchup. He suffered a lacerated kidney in Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers, which resulted in the Birds designating him to Injured Reserve.

Gardner-Johnson’s emergence in his first season in Philly was a revelation early in the year. At the time of his injury, he was the NFL’s standalone leader with six interceptions. Having missed the last five games, Gardner-Johnson is now in a four-way tie with Pittsburgh’s Minkah Fitzpatrick, Denver’s Justin Simmons, and Seattle’s Tariq Woolen.

As for Quinn, his 2022 campaign hasn’t gone exactly to plan. After racking up 18.5 sacks in 2021, Quinn has just 10 tackles and one sack on the year. He arrived in Philadelphia after the Chicago Bears shipped him off in exchange for a 2023 fourth-round pick.

While these players are all immediately eligible to return to practice, this news does not guarantee their availability for Week 18 and beyond. However, it is a critical step in the process to return.

With reinforcements on the horizon, the Eagles could do themselves a massive favor by locking up the NFC's coveted first-round bye with a win over the New York Giants on Sunday.
