The Buffalo Bills have some difficult decisions to make.

One of the biggest will be what the team plans to do with Jordan Poyer. Poyer, a staple to the team and community, is due for a massive contract now that the season is wrapped.

The All-Pro safety signed a new agent and will undoubtedly get paid handsomely for his services. Before the loss to the Bengals, the Bills were undefeated when Poyer was in the lineup this year.

Poyer reinvented himself in Buffalo. After teaming up with Micah Hyde, the duo made an immediate impact. It will be incredibly difficult for Buffalo to find a way to compete at the same level without the talented safety, especially considering the cap situation.

Poyer, Edmunds, and Oliver are all names due for a contract now that the season has expired.

Sean McDermott, during his media availability, discussed the future of the safety position, and he surprised fans and media by saying the team will discuss the possibility of moving rookie cornerback Christian Benford to safety.

While this doesn't guarantee a contract won't come for Poyer, this makes things even more interesting.

Benford has shined in limited availability on this team. Remember, in week one against the Rams, it was Benford and not first-round pick Kaiir Elam who got the start at cornerback. In fact, Benford's own draft profile listed him as both a CB and a Safety.

Again, Poyer's contract situation is up in the air currently. Sean McDermott and the Bills front office have kept everything close to the vest with all things. Case and point, the Von Miller signing came out of nowhere.

Late in the season, Kaiir Elam apparently won the starting job opposite Tre White. Now, with a difficult decision ahead, did Sean McDermott just hint at Benford being the potential replacement for Poyer? Or was this merely to discuss depth?

It's hard to imagine a Bills team without Poyer and Hyde in the secondary. After McDermott's presser, we may have finally gotten a hint of an answer.

Benford proved in limited playing time that he is more than capable of playing in the NFL. Now the only question is if he will be a viable option for safety.

If so, once again, Buffalo will have some very difficult decisions to make.
