Latest news will give Vikings fans major nostalgia
With the latest news regarding the release of one franchise cornerstone, the Vikings have just one player remaining from the 2015 draft class.
The Minnesota Vikings parted ways with one of its franchise cornerstones on Monday.
In a move made to save $9.5 million against the salary cap, the Vikings released All-Pro linebacker Eric Kendricks.
Kendricks was one of the most consistent players to ever don the purple and gold in his eight seasons with the Vikings. He played in 117 games, starting in 113 of them, compiling 919 tackles, 54 TFLs, and 15 sacks.
The 2019 All-Pro added nine interceptions and six fumble recoveries, including this game-winning touchdown against the Bills in 2022.
At 31 years of age, the Vikings decided that it’s time to turn the page. Kendricks' departure means that DE Danielle Hunter is the last player remaining on the team from the 2015 NFL Draft.
Only Harrison Smith (2012) and Adam Thielen (2013) have been with Minnesota longer.
He now is set to hit free agency, where he will likely sign with another team, possibly one that can contend for the Super Bowl. The sting of the loss will carry on for some time, but nostalgia is already creeping in.
Kendricks was an instrumental piece to four different postseason runs in Minnesota. He is a player that will always be synonymous with Vikings football.
As the Vikings begin to navigate life without Kendricks, second-year linebacker Brian Asamoah is next in line to fill some pretty big shoes.
