The Buffalo Bills are reportedly adding even more help at safety on a one-year deal.

The Bills are signing free-agent safety Taylor Rapp to a one-year contract after he visited the New England Patriots during the early stages of free agency, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Rapp, who was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Washignton, is a versatile defensive back who can play in the slot, the box or at free safety. He has six interceptions and two fumble recoveries in the last two seasons.

Rapp joins Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde, Zayne Anderson, Jared Mayden and possibly even Damar Hamlin in the Bills’ safeties room. Bills general manager Brandon Beane said earlier this month that Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January, is “trending in the right direction” to play again. Poyer was a surprise re-signing this month.

Rapp helped the Rams beat the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI following the 2021 season. He’s started 48 of 57 games in his career with nine interceptions, one touchdown, 23 pass breakups, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, 1.5 sacks, 330 tackles, eight tackles for loss and five QB hits.

He should be a versatile chess piece in head coach Sean McDermott’s defense. Rapp is the second former Ram to join the Bills this offseason. Buffalo also signed guard David Edwards.
