The Tennessee Titans are considering the idea of a draft day trade that would send shockwaves around the NFL.

AtoZ Sports has confirmed a report from NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah on his Move The Sticks podcast stating the Titans are exploring a trade for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The third overall pick is currently owned by the Arizona Cardinals who hired former Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort as its general manager earlier this offseason.

Titan GM Ran Carthon has previously said that Tennessee is "open for business" with its No. 11 overall pick.. A move of this magnitude would be quite the splash in his first offseason on the job.

Interestingly enough, Carthon has been involved in a trade like this before.

In 2021, while Carthon was serving as the San Francisco 49ers’ director of player personnel, the Niners made a trade with the Miami Dolphins to jump from No. 12 overall to the No. 3 overall. It was there where San Fran would select QB Trey Lance, who hasn’t panned out as of yet.

If the Titans were to make this type of move, it would all but guarantee the team selects a quarterback.

But what would it cost?

The 49ers dealt its No. 12 overall pick and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023 along with a third-round compensatory pick to Miami. With Tennessee slotted to pick at 11, the Titans would have to assemble a similar package.

It wasn’t all that long ago when the Titans on the receiving end of a draft night trade. In 2016, the Los Angeles Rams traded a litany of draft picks in exchange for the Titans’ No. 1 overall spot to select QB Jared Goff.

Titans Received:

  • No. 15 overall pick
  • Two second-round picks (43,45)
  • Third-round pick (76)
  • 2017 First-round pick
  • 2017 Third-round pick

It should be noted the Rams also acquired Tennessee’s fourth-round pick and sixth-round pick in 2016 as part of the deal.

Here's a look at the Titans' 2023 draft picks:

  • Round 1, Pick 11
  • Round 2, Pick 41
  • Round 3, Pick 72
  • Round 5, Pick 147
  • Round 6, Pick 186 (from ATL)
  • Round 7, Pick 228

If the Titans do end up making the jump to No. 3 overall, it would leap the Indianapolis Colts at No. 4 in the process.

Not only would the Titans have to like a player enough to make this move, but the team would have to trust that player is available after the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans pluck a passer in the draft’s top two slots.
