ESPN reporter Bill Barnwell seems to think star running back Derrick Henry could be on the move. When talking about the Cowboys running back situation, Barnwell brings up Henry as a name to watch:
“If it’s not Elliott, the Cowboys could look toward a market that still includes Leonard Fournette, Latavius Murray, an Kareem Hunt unsigned. There’s also a chance expensive veterans such as Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook could be released after the draft.” – ESPN’s Bill Barnwell
Although rumors of a potential Derrick Henry trade have circulated this offseason, this is the first time someone has brought up the possibility of a release.
I think it would be pretty crazy for the Titans to release Henry straight up, but Barnwell seems to think differently.
When it comes to a landing spot, ESPN's Max Kellerman also sees the Cowboys as a great fit. Kellerman thinks that the Cowboys could use him as a "situational back and a guy that can run between the tackles.”
I think this largely undervalues what Henry brings to the table, as he is coming off another season of over 1500 rush yards.
Henry is in the last year of his contract and has the largest cap hit out of any running back in the league, with $16.4 million.
However, he showed last year that he could still be one of the best backs in the league and would be a significant addition to any team. With the Cowboys franchise tagging Tony Pollard earlier this season, it is more likely they draft a running back than attempt to get someone like Henry.
