Fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in for a very interesting 2023 season.

While most of the roster is still constructed in a way to win now, the question marks at quarterback could prove to be disastrous in the long run.

As it stands, there isn't a set hierarchy at quarterback, but this is actually the right move by a Buccaneers team that needs to let the competition help make the decision easier.

One of the most perplexing elements of the Buccaneer fanbase right now is the large group of people that take issue with this approach.

These fans, many of whom support the Florida Gators in college football, wonder rather loudly why the team isn't just handing the starting quarterback job over to former second-round pick Kyle Trask.

Well, the Bucs aren't doing this because they actually know how to run a football team.

Trask was always a long shot to do anything meaningful for the Bucs. Yes, his college stats are impressive, but his overall lack of athleticism makes for some serious roadblocks in his journey to becoming an NFL starter.

The Bucs would've been silly to simply hand the starting job over to a guy that still has done next to nothing in the NFL after two years in the league just because he sat behind Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert.

The only way for Kyle Trask to earn the starting job is through competition. That is the only way this should ever work in the NFL at any position.

The Bucs bringing in Baker Mayfield makes it seem like they already have their new starter based on Mayfield being the much better overall prospect, but nothing is set in stone.

The starting quarterback in 2023 is going to be the one that plays better in training camp. For better or for worse, the Bucs are using the only strategy that actually makes any football sense to determine their most important player for next season.
