The best nicknames aren't products of well-thought out discussion, they're spontaneously created, often from unlikely sources. And when they stick, they stick for good.

Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Charlie Jones has a simple enough name; the kind of guy your daughter takes to homecoming and you feel a sense of comfort. But if "Chuck Sizzle" takes her out, then you start having questions.

Jones' nickname is spectacular, plain and simple, so it's no surprise to learn where it originated.

According to Bengals play-by-play radio announcer Dan Hoard, Jones revealed that his nickname came from Fox Sports' college football broadcaster and industry legend Gus Johnson during Jones' first game at Purdue.

I actually took the liberty to comb through this game to see when Johnson dropped the nickname onto the airwaves. Purdue's first drive of the second half is when it first entered the ether.

Johnson is always quick on the mic to make magic happen, but Jones absolutely earned the moniker that evening. In his first-ever game with the Boilermakers, he caught 12 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown.

It was the start of a fantastic season for Jones, and a crazy statistical month for the talented receiver. Jones would rack up 32 receptions for 474 yards and five touchdowns in Purdue's first three games. Surprisingly, he was second in both yards and touchdowns during that span.

Jones clearly proved worthy of the nickname, but if his new teammates aren't using it yet, it looks like he may have to earn it all over again.
