Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has started to turn things around in the eyes of the league. It wasn't long ago when the consensus on him was that he was the guy that failed in Los Angeles and the Rams traded him away.
After coming off the best season of his career, executives, coaches and players around the league decided to include him as an honorable mention in their top 10 ranking. Here's some of what was said.
"He's always been a good thrower of the football. His issue, to me, was toughness, particularly in the pocket," an AFC scout said. "I thought he addressed a lot of that this year and stood tall."
Goff improved so many aspects of his game in 2022. He kept the ball secure, he improved his conference in the pocket as mentioned by the AFC scout and went back to throwing the ball deep. All that improvement was good enough for Goff to show up on "nearly 25% of the ballots" that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler received.
There's been a lot of talk lately about what Goff might be able to achieve. Former Colts coach Chuck Pagano picked Goff as his dark horse MVP last week. The Lions hype train is real and Goff is the conductor on this train. At least on the field. Dan Campbell is the head conductor. I guess that would make Goff the co-conductor? I don't really know how the hierarchy on trains work.
Can Goff make the top 10 list in 2023? We'll soon see.
