Roster cuts around the league are starting to make the cuts necessary to get down to the NFL's roster limit of 53.
After teams finalize their initial 53-man roster, all eyes will go to the following day's waiver wire claims. Which is always the most active claim date of the year.
The Indianapolis Colts still have multiple glaring needs on their roster, and the waiver wire looks like a solid area for the team to fill them.
Due to the Colts' poor 2022-2023 season, they are in good shape to utilize the waiver wire this season, as they hold the 4th highest priority.
I took a look at players whose teams have already announced that they are parting ways with that the Colts could look to put a claim in for. One of which the Colts could add without having to. go through the waiver wire.
OG Michael Dunn

Michael Dunn has been around the NFL since 2017, when he signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent. It took him till 2020, though, to find his way on an NFL active roster with the Cleveland Browns.
During his time with the Browns Dunn, he has developed into a reliable depth lineman for the team. He has been able to play solid snaps as a starter when his number was called. Dunn would be a significant upgrade to the team's reserve guard spot and could potentially push starter Will Fries as well.
An added bonus with Dunn is he is not subject to waivers due to his three seasons on the active roster with the Browns as well as accruing more than the NFL limit on the practice squad with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018.
2022 PFF grades:
Run Blocking Grade: 61.1
Pass Blocking Grade: 79.5
RB Zonovan Knight

The Colts running back room is currently in limbo, awaiting whether or not star RB Jonathan Taylor will be traded. The team's self-made deadline for a deal to occur is on the same day as the NFL's cutdown day, Tuesday, August 29th. This means they should know in time to use the waiver wire for the position if they elect to do so.
I think the best back to hit the waiver wire so far is Zonovan Knight with the New York Jets. His role with the team last year wasn't extensive, as he only started in four games, but three of those would end up being solid showings from the 2022 rookie. A new scenery makes sense for Knight, with Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook set to be the team's top two backs.
2022 Rushing Stats As A Starter:
- Week 12: 14 attempts, 69 yards, 4.93 YPC
- Week 13: 15 attempts, 90 yards, 6.0 YPC
- Week 14: 17 attempts, 71 yards, 4.18 YPC, 1 touchdown
