A former Tennessee Vols quarterback was released on Tuesday afternoon as part of NFL roster cuts.

According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Chicago Bears released former Vols quarterback Nate Peterman on Tuesday.

Pelissero noted that Chicago is hoping to re-sign Peterman to their practice squad.

Peterman went viral during the preseason for an impressive throw he made in a game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Peterman, who played at Tennessee from 2012 to 2014 before transferring to Pittsburgh, started one game for the Bears last season. The former Vol passed for 114 yards and one touchdown in Chicago's 29-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings during the final week of the regular season.

Update:

All is well that ends well. Peterman was re-signed to the Bears' active roster on Thursday morning according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It looks like waiving him was just so the Bears could work some roster magic.
