A former Cleveland Browns draft pick from the 2016 NFL Draft has decided to hang up the cleats and call it a career after seven seasons.

Carl Nassib was selected with the No. 65 overall pick in 2016 out of Penn State. Nassib spent his first two seasons with the Browns before being cut before the start of the 2018 season.

Being cut was potentially the best thing for Nassib because he landed with the team that he had his two best seasons with. After signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Nassib recorded six sacks in back-to-back seasons.

As a rookie with the Browns, Nassib played in 14 games and made three starts. The former Penn State standout had 2.5 sacks his rookie year, then three sacks his second year in Cleveland.

Nassib announced on Instagram and pointed to the fact that he wanted to focus on his business. When looking at his career, Nassib is known as the first openly gay player to be on an active roster. It was a barrier that Nassib broke in the summer of 2021 while he was with the Las Vegas Raiders organization.

At 30 years old, Nassib gets out of the NFL as a vested player who will be paid by the NFL for the long haul.

Getting multiple contracts in the NFL isn’t easy, even if they are one-year deals. Nassib made 38 starts in 99 games and now gets to focus on becoming an entrepreneur while being retired from the NFL, not such a bad thing.
