Cautious optimism is growing for the Cleveland Browns when you take a look at their injury report ahead of Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

For the second straight day, Denzel Ward was taking part in individual drills. Ward remains in the concussion protocol but looks to be progressing toward playing on Sunday.

Ward practicing for a second straight day signals there was no setback. The Pro Bowl cornerback remains in the concussion protocol — so he has been limited — but he could start team drills as soon as tomorrow. Ward’s status is very important for Cleveland for the fact that they will be going up against Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Right tackle Jack Conklin had a rest day, something we’ll see many of the veterans on the team receive throughout the season. Conklin has dealt with a lot of injuries over the past few years, so load management isn’t such a bad idea.

Safety Juan Thornhill worked off to the side as he’s dealing with a calf injury and did not participate in practice. The injury has never been noted as a serious one for the newcomer, so tomorrow will be more telling. Practice squad member Isaiah Thomas is still working his way back from a minor knee operation and he was off to the side with trainers.

Just one more injury report remains tomorrow before the teams will have Saturday off in preparation for Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff.
