The Dallas Cowboys' second injury report of the week is even better than Wednesday's.
Basically, everyone on the list is trending in the right direction. Head coach Mike McCarthy indicated before practice that Zack Martin would be limited (ankle) after not practicing on Wednesday, per ESPN's Todd Archer.
As far as safety Donovan Wilson, he'll stack his second consecutive practice as a full participant as he comes back from a calf injury suffered early in training camp. This puts Wilson on track to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 even though the team could still decide against it.
Wilson hasn't exactly been missed as the Cowboys defense has allowed 10 points two games into the season. However, there's a reason why the front office signed the starting safety to a three-year deal in the offseason.
He's a key player on Dan Quinn's defense as a versatile safety who provides good cover skills but can also blitz (five sacks in 2022) and makes an impact in the run game (seven tackles for loss). His physical play style will return just in time as showdowns against the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers peek their heads on the horizon.
While it's possible the Cowboys play it safe and rest some of their injured players for what is perceived as an easy game in Arizona, it could also serve as the right ramp-up opportunity for players who have yet to play their first game in 2023 like Wilson and Tyler Smith.
Additionally, McCarthy indicated Jayron Kearse was on the facilities but would likely miss practice again with an illness. Brandin Cooks and Tyler Smith are both expected to practice.
UPDATE: Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs injured in practice
Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs was spotted in crutches in the locker room after Thursday's practice. The severity of the leg injury is unknown and happened during 1-on-1 and is set to have an MRI on his knee, per Dallas Morning News.
The MRI has since confirmed Diggs suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
