Playing through pain has been an apt description of the Cincinnati Bengals' season thus far, though most of the pain has been mental other than quarterback Joe Burrow's calf.

Wide receiver Tee Higgins is also set to push through injury. Higgins said he fractured "just one" rib against the Tennessee Titans and hopes to play this week.

"I plan not to be out for a while," Higgins told reporters Monday. "I plan to be back either maybe this week, maybe next week."

Higgins said he suffered the injury while trying to make a sideline grab in Tennessee and landed on his side. The team declared him out for the remainder of the game, and his rib fracture was reported on shortly afterwards.

It would be much different if Higgins fractured multiple ribs. Fracturing one means it's about pain tolerance.

"It all just depends on the soreness, Higgins said. "And it's really up to me at the end of the day."

Higgins will not need any sort of procedure, but it will take some time for the rib to fully heal on its own. Playing through it is entirely up to the fourth-year receiver, and of course the training and coaching staff.

The first four weeks of the season have not been ideal for Higgins, who has just 12 catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Now he'll be managing an injury as he attempts to get right during a contract year.
