NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans (2-2) will likely be without wide receiver Treylon Burks this week when they head to Indianapolis to take on the Colts (2-2). Week 5 is the first time that Tennessee will play an AFC South divisional opponent.
Burks missed the Titans 27-3 win over the Cincinnati Benals (1-3) recovering from a knee injury.
The former first-round pick went down in the team's week of work leading up to Cincinnati. Burks did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday of this week as well. Tennessee is hoping that short-term rest will allow Burks sufficient time to recover without an Injured Reserve stint.
Burks suffered an LCL sprain this past August in joint training camp work against the Minnesota Vikings. He returned to practice 11 days later, and was available for the team's Week 1 road trip to New Orleans.
"Nick (Westbrook-Ikhine) and Chris (Moore), they have made plays throughout the early part of the season when called upon," said coach Mike Vrabel of receivers stepping up. "Those guys work extremely hard. They play on special teams for us, they know all the receiver spots. Invaluable, versatile players.
"So I was happy to see them have success and they both came up with big plays today. And you saw Chris in there as a gunner, as a plus-50 gunner, knocking a ball loose. We'll have to get guys closer there the next time when we make a play. Mason (Kinsey) did a nice job catching punts. Hop (DeAndre Hopkins) came up with the plays that he needed as well."
Fellow second-year wide out Kyle Philips will return to the line-up against Indianapolis on Sunday, barring any setbacks. Philips was placed on IR after the team's preseason game vs Minnesota with an MCL injury.
The Titans passing attack ranks 28th (169.0) in yards per game ahead of Thursday Night Football between the Chicago Bears (0-4) and Washington Commanders (2-2).
