The San Francisco 49ers will board their flight to Jacksonville Jaguars still with some doubt over the non-quarterback arguably most important to their hopes of ending a three-game losing streak.

All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams practiced again on Friday as he looks to make his return from an ankle injury that has kept him out for two games.

But head coach Kyle Shanahan did not talk up the prospect of Williams playing. Instead, he did the opposite.

Injury report observations

The fact Williams has practiced for two successive days would appear to point to him returning to the lineup.

However, Shanahan made no such guarantees, describing Williams as "real questionable", adding that his status will depend on how the ankle responds to two days of practice and cross-country flight.

That tallies with an earlier report from The Athletic's Diana Russini, who indicated Williams will be a game-time decision.

Should Williams' ankle respond poorly and leave the 49ers to start swing Jaylon Moore at left tackle for a third straight game, that would be a potentially critical blow against a deep Jaguars front that does an impressive job executing its pressure packages.

Also questionable is Javon Hargrave, the defensive tackle's knee having flared up in Thursday's practice.

Hargrave, the 49ers' blockbuster offseason addition in free agency, has been their most consistent interior pass rusher, and the Niners will naturally want him to shake off that issue to allow him to retain his place next to Arik Armstead on a D-Line that will feature edge rusher Chase Young for the first time following the former second overall pick's arrival at the trade deadline.

A defensive front featuring Young, Hargrave, Armstead and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa would provide a huge advantage for the Niners against a vulnerable Jags offensive line. If Hargrave cannot play, the onus would be on former first-round pick Javon Kinlaw to fill the void.

Defensive end Drake Jackson will not have the opportunity to face that O-Line after he was ruled out along with left guard Aaron Banks, whose absence with turf toe was essentially confirmed during the Niners' Week 9 bye.

Cornerbacks Samuel Womack III and Darrell Luter Jr. and edge Robert Beal Jr. are all listed as questionable after having their practice windows opened this week. The 49ers would need to activate them to the 53-man roster for them to feature.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, though, will definitely feature. He does not have an injury designation after practicing in full all week following a two-game absence with a hairline fracture in his shoulder.
