Following one of the worst losses of the season, perhaps a day away from the game would allow for cooler heads to prevail.

But Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth was still fired up after a lackluster game from the offense.

That was especially true when it came to procedural penalties, and one player in particular:

"It's Pretty Frustrating"

“It’s very frustrating," Muth told reporters on Monday. "We’ve had the same formations for three years now, the names of them. It’s pretty frustrating…

"…Study the game plan longer,” Freiermuth suggested when asked how to correct the mental lapses. “Communicate. Line up where you’re supposed to line up."

Freiermuth was addressing the whole offense, but the comments were particularly directed at veteran WR and core special teamer Miles Boykin, who took accountability of some of the pre-snap penalties on Sunday, saying:

"I heard the formation wrong," Boykin told The Athletic's Mike DeFabo. "I ended up on the wrong side of the formation. That can't happen. I'm a veteran. I'm a smart player. That's unacceptable on my part, completely."

No matter what happens going forward with Mitch Trubisky at the helm, the routine plays have to be made routinely to use a Tomlinism. Pittsburgh is still in the middle of the wildcard race but a razor-thin margin for error just got even tighter following the loss of their starting QB, meaning there's no room for these kinds of penalties.
