James Houston has a 'good chance' of returning to Lions this week

The Detroit Lions just had the biggest week they've had in 30 years. After Clinching the divsion and the playoffs, they might not be done getting Christmas presents just yet. Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoke with 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday morning and said there's a good chance pass rusher James Houston is back at practice this week.
"Other guys are improving. There's a good chance we start Houston's clock. And there again, Mack (Alim McNeill) continues to get better. But, this is going to be one of those that it's going to take a few days here to decide exactly where we're at."
Houston went down in Week 2 with a fractured ankle and he's been fighting to get back ever since. He said not long ago that he believed he could be back before the playoffs and the the Lions have been pointing to a late December or early January return.
Now we know that the return to practice could be this week. Now, much like C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who also just returned from an injury suffered in Week 2, I wouldn't expect to see Houston right away. If he does practice this week, the earliest you might see him is against the Vikings in Week 18.
Still, the Lions are getting heathy at the perfect time. Gardner-Johnson is back, James Houston looks to be back soon and hopefully the Lions will be able to get Alim Mc Neill back before the playoffs as well. This is all going to give the Lions some pretty good chances to make some big things happen in January.
Update: Campbell back tracked on this comment a bit in Tuesday's press conference. He said Houston is close and the Lions do plan to start his 21 day clock, but said that he wasn't sure if it would be this week or next week yet. We'll keep you updated on that.
Is there a case for Jared Goff winning the MVP?
The MVP discussion in the NFL has been a crazy one. It seems every week there is a new candidate tossed out there by the national media. Last week it was Brock Purdy. Then Purdy went out and threw four interceptions and got benched against the Ravens. There's been a bunch of other names flying […]
