Sebastian Joseph-Day has the chance to win another Super Bowl title after signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

Defensive tackle Joseph-Day's arrival was confirmed by the team on Tuesday after he was waived by the Los Angeles Chargers last week. A Super Bowl winner with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 season, Joseph-Day fills a big need on the interior defensive line with Arik Armstead still out with knee and foot injuries.

A renowned run defender who is enjoying his best season as a pass rusher with three sacks and 11 quarterback hits, Joseph-Day is an excellent addition at this point in the season.

After clearing waivers, the decision to sign with the Niners was an easy one for Joseph-Day because of head coach Kyle Shanahan.

"I think the Niners speak for themselves. They're a great organization. I'm very familiar with them… Kyle is a no-brainer for me," Joseph-Day said. "I'm just here to do whatever I can to help the team win, whatever that role may be."

Joseph-Day was let go by the Chargers following the firing of head coach Brandon Staley, the former Rams defensive coordinator with whom he reunited when signing a three-year, $24 million contract last March.

Asked about his release from the Chargers, Joseph-Day responded: "I think I’ll keep those comments to myself. I'm just lucky to be here. It's a new opportunity. I'm just thankful to be part of this organization. I'm just focused on that right now.

"I'm just thankful I'm in a great situation with a great team and a lot of great players."

One of those great players, reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa, was quick to praise Joseph-Day on Wednesday.

He said: "I remember when we played him when he was with the Rams. Kyle would mention him in his team meetings. So if you're getting mentioned on the D-line, that’s a pretty good compliment, especially when Aaron Donald is out there.

"So, yeah, we're excited. Hopefully, he can pick up on the scheme quickly and get out there and contribute."

The 49ers are working to get him up to speed so he can contribute right off the bat against the Washington Commanders on New Year's Eve as they look to bounce back from their Christmas Day loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
