There weren't many causes for concern to come from the San Francisco 49ers' regular-season finale.
San Francisco lost 21-20 to the Los Angeles Rams in a meaningless Week 18 game that saw both teams keep many starters on the sideline. The NFC one seed 49ers had nothing to play for, with their main aim to avoid injuries.
Though defensive end Clelin Ferrell left the game with a knee injury as a precaution, they were successful in achieving that goal, but there may justifiably be some nerves in the fanbase around a key aspect of the team following the Rams' comeback win.
Rookie kicker Jake Moody had entered the game having made 58 successive extra points, the longest such run since point after attempts were moved back to the 15-yard line in 2015.
He extended that streak to 60 against the Rams before sending his third attempt after a Ronnie Bell touchdown wide of the right upright, that miss following an errant 38-yard field goal attempt on the 49ers' previous offensive possession. That was Moody's first miss from inside 40 yards.
Prior to Sunday's unconvincing performance, Moody had not missed a kick since Week 7.
With the 49ers' Divisional Round playoff game just under two weeks away, Moody's timing could hardly be worse, though head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear he retains faith in the third-round pick.
"It's never good when you miss them, especially having two like that and the extra point," Shanahan said of Moody's performance. "I think it was his first one inside the 40, maybe all year. He's had a hell of a year. He has done a hell of a job up to this point and just had a rough day today."
Asked if he would consider signing a kicker to the practice squad as insurance, Shanahan replied: "No, he's been great all year. He was rough on those two today, but no, we're good with Jake."
Moody ended the regular season with a 84 percent field goal percentage, eighth in the NFL.
However, after an extremely shaky end to a largely impressive campaign, Shanahan's words may not sit well with those who initially doubted his selection with a top-100 pick.
After missing a game-winner in the Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns, struggling in primetime a week later against the Minnesota Vikings and missing two routine kicks in Week 18, there will be intense scrutiny on Moody during a postseason in which their push for a long-awaited sixth Super Bowl triumph could come down to a pressure kick.
