It's been a while since the Detroit Lions went across the pond and played a football game. The last time they did it was a game that you probably want to forget. Back in 2015 the Lions headed to London, England and got absolutely drubbed by the Chiefs in a 45-10 loss. They haven't been back since, maybe that's why. Either that or the smoke detector thing.
The Lions have maybe a stronger chance than ever to be heading back in 2024 though. A big reason is the rise in their popularity as they have become one of the best teams in the NFL. The even bigger reason is that three of their opponents are all headed there in 2024.
The NFL designated the Bears, Vikings, Jaguars and Panthers as their designated for London and Munich next year. The Panthers will be going to Munich, so a trip to Germany is out for the Lions. They do play all three London teams on the road next year though.
There's a strong chance that the NFL might want to send an NFC North matchup to England. If that's the case, the Lions could very well get a divisional game on neutral grounds next year. If they were to potentially head to London with the Bears, they could forgo a trip to Solider Field during the winter time.
Don't rule out a Lions vs Jaguars game either. The Jags are a very popular team in England and this is why they keep going back seemingly every year. A Lions vs Jaguars game would sell some tickets over there.
Nothing is set in stone and won't be until the spring time when the NFL drops next seasons schedule in the spring. So don't buy your plane tickets just yet.
