While special teams is the most forgotten element of team football, it is still pivotal nonetheless.

And no position is as thankless, yet as important as punter.

But according to Coach Tomlin, the Steelers just haven't been good enough at that position:

Not Good Enough

"I'Il acknowledge that Pressley [Harvin] was not consistent enough, particularly down the stretch," Coach Tomlin said when asked bout the punter position in his season-ending presser.

Harvin finished the season averaging a mere 39.1 net years per punt and only 38.5 yards per punt in the wildcard game against the Buffalo Bills, a game where every snap of special teams was going to be crucial.

Pittsburgh has already brought in competition to push Harvin, having signed Braden Mann to compete with Harvin during training camp and then signing Brad Wing when Harvin went down with a hamstring injury.

So we'll see what happens with Harvin as he heads into the final year of his rookie deal, with Harvin needing a big offseason to stick around in Pittsburgh for the long term.
