It seems like just the other day that the Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to terms on a contract with Mitch Trubisky.

Around this time last year, the team was more than willing to sign Trubisky to a contract that made him the highest paid backup QB in the league.

But after starting QB Kenny Pickett went down with injury, Trubisky played well below that level and was released the day following the Super Bowl

Now Trubisky is going back to his prior destination:

Trubisky to Buffalo

Before signing in Pittsburgh, Trubisky spent a season in Buffalo, backing up star QB Josh Allen.

Trubisky attempted only eight passes all year, but he was a star of the preseason (stop me if you heard that before) and was lauded as a great teammate that deserved his chance to start again after things went off the rails in Chicago.

And that happened in 2022 when the Steelers signed Trubisky to be the starter while rookie QB Kenny Pickett got up to speed.

But Trubisky struggled, going 2-3 during his stretch as the starter and ultimately was benched for Pickett. who would go to show flashes during his rookie year.

So Pittsburgh opted to re-sign him last season as the league's most-valued backup

That ultimately resulted in the team turning to Mason Rudolph after Trubisky went 0-2 and had the Steelers on the brink of playoff elimination before the team won out and made the wildcard round.

Trubisky will look to re-write his career arch during his second stint in Buffalo.
