It's not often that we talk about a TE being a lock to hear his name called during the first round of the NFL Draft, but that's the reality with Georiga TE Brock Bowers.
Many in the NFL space view Bowers as one of the best TE prospects in recent memory. And multiple NFL teams have been anxiously waiting for Bowers to make the leap to the pro level, and this April, he will be drafted in the first round, making one NFL team very happy.
With that day quickly approaching, I decided to share the three teams that I believe would be the best fits to draft Bowers to utilize his full skill set and, in turn, get the most out of the talented TE.
Top 3 landing spots for Brock Bowers
New York Jets (Pick 10)
The New York Jets hold the 10th pick in the first round, and due to their trade for Aaron Rodgers, they don't own a second-round pick this year, which makes hitting on their first-round pick even more crucial. There are multiple directions they could go, but after adding veteran Tyron Smith in free agency, the early expectation that they would be forced to go tackle with this pick has changed. It's common knowledge at this point that the Jets will go as far as Aaron Rodgers can take them at this point of his career. Rodgers will turn 41 in December of next season, and obviously, his first season with the Jets didn't go to plan, with him tearing his achilies on the first possession of the 2023 season.
But he is only three years removed from winning back-to-back MVPs in 2020 and 2021. And giving a savvy veteran like Rodgers a weapon like Bowers that he can trust and use in multiple ways could be a perfect match. Bowers' ability to be a mismatch against linebackers and safeties makes defenses consider assigning a corner to cover him, which will only help Garett Wilson reach the superstar status that the Jets believe he has the talent to be. And giving Bowers a veteran QB like Rodgers to begin his career could help him avoid the typical slow start most rookie tight ends suffer.
Indianapolis Colts (Pick 15)
The Indianapolis Colts hold the 15th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and have multiple positions they could target with this selection. One of the most common players mocked to the Colts early in the draft process was Bowers. This is because people around the NFL view Colts head coach Shane Steichen as one of the best playcallers and offensive minds in the league. Steichen is believed to be one of the best young offensive minds known for being innovative in how he deploys the talent on his roster.
The Colts used a TE-by-committee approach last season but still used each of them in ways to optimize their individual skill sets. If the Colts and Steichen got their hands on a player like Bowers, I think the ways they would use him are limitless. And while the Colts don't have a vet QB like Rodgers to pair with Bowers, they do have a young up-and-coming QB in Anthony Richardson that they could allow the duo to grow together and become the next great QB-TE duo in the
Cincinnati Bengals (Pick 18)
The Jets have a vet QB approaching the end of his Hall of Fame career, the Colts have a promising QB entering his second season, and the last team I'll speak on today is the Cincinnati Bengals, who have Joe Burrow, a star QB in the middle of his prime. The Bengals offense is experiencing some turnover this offseason, with offensive coordinator Brian Callahan leaving to become the head coach for the Tennessee Titans, as well as the team choosing to trade away Joe Mixon. As well as there still being question marks in the WR room, with Tee Higgins' fate up in the air and Tyler Boyd remaining a free agent.
This, to me, sounds like the perfect time for the Bengals to take a big swing on a TE of Bowers' caliber. We've seen Burrow and the Bengals offense get solid production out of below-average TE talents such as C.J. Uzomah and Hayden Hurst. So, just imagine the type of production they could get with Bowers, who is able to be used in so many different ways compared to Uzomah and Hurst. I think the Bengals are a bit out of range for Bowers as things currently stand, so it could require a trade-up if they want to secure the TE. But I think he's worth that type of move, and I think it would soften the blow if the Bengals end up without Higgins and Boyd next season.
