The New York Giants have recently been in contact with former UFL kick returner and wide receiver Juwan Manigo, sources tell A to Z Sports.
At 26 years old, Manigo has been a true special teams weapon as a pro football player in both the UFL with the Arlington Renegades and with the Chihuahua Caudillos of Mexico's pro football league, the LFA.
In 2024, Manigo finished third in all-purpose yards for the UFL (1,116), putting up electric returns on a weekly basis. What he lacks in size at 5-foot-7, Manigo makes up for in speed and elusiveness that can easily be confused with straight up magic on the field.
In an article I wrote earlier in the year, I described how dominant Manigo was in Mexico before arriving at the UFL in 2024:
"Manigo, whose "Sonic" nickname quickly caught on, became the most iconic player to ever suit up for pro ball in Mexico by winning MVP honors in back-to-back years as a wide receiver and return specialist. He dominated two different pro leagues, as the Caudillos went from playing in a competing league to the LFA to "graduating" to the longest-tenured league and going undefeated en route to becoming champions in their first year in the LFA, in no small part thanks to Manigo."
Although Manigo proved to be dangerous in Mexico with the ball in his hands as a wide receiver, in all likelihood NFL teams like the Giants and Tennessee Titans (who have also been in contact with Manigo) are interested in the value he'd provide in special teams.
With new kickoff rules in the league incentivizing teams to avoid touchbacks and setting up returners for more favorable looks, teams' interest in better returners is guaranteed to see a boost.
Earlier this week, the Giants signed UFL running back standout Jacob Saylors so it's clear they won't shy away from Manigo just because he played in a spring pro football league. Perhaps he'll be next. For now, we wait.
