The Green Bay Packers won’t have Jordan Love for the second consecutive week. Despite Love practicing the entire week ahead of the game against the Tennessee TItans, the team will be cautious.
According to insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, from NFL Network, the Packers are expected to start Malik Willis, a revenge game for the backup quarterback against his former team.
The Packers acquired Willis from the Titans for a seventh-round pick ahead of final roster cuts less than a month ago.
Pelissero mentioned that the Packers haven't ruled out Love yet, but the expectation is that the starter won't be available.
Jordan Love suffered an MCL sprain in week 1, when the Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. The initial timeline for Love was three to six weeks, but he has a chance to beat that frame and play against the Minnesota Vikings in week 4 at Lambeau Field.
Given the re-injury risk, which includes the chance of having an even more serious knee injury, the decision makes sense.
On Saturday, Green Bay elevated quarterback Sean Clifford from the practice squad for gameday, and he will serve as the backup to Malik Willis on Sunday.
In Malik Willis first start for the Packers last week, the offense was able to manage a run-centric gameplan to beat the Indianapolis Colts 16-10. Green Bay has a 1-1 record going into week 3.
