Cam Ward reacts to being drafted by the Titans with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft
The Eagle has landed
NASHVILLE — Miami quarterback Cam Ward is officially a Tennessee Titan. After a 3-14 finish last season, Tennessee landed their new quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
It has been the NFL's worst kept season.
Cam Ward grateful to be the Titans No. 1 overall pick
Ward knows that the real challenge is still ahead of him.
Since the NFL Scouting Combine, Ward has publicly maintained that his draft position did not matter. The work just begins after you hear your name called by Commissioner Roger Goodell. Playing quarterback at the NFL comes with tremendous pressure and expectations.
Ward embraced that challenge speaking with media on Thursday.
"I knew I was (the Titans) guy all along," said Ward. "I let the tape do a lot of talking, but I just think that once they finally got to meet me face to face and watch film with me, it just helped my case. Coach Callahan, he's a great head coach and a great offensive mind. He's had a lot of success with previous quarterbacks and I'm hoping I can be his next project."
Given that there were multiple trade offers made to Tennessee for the No. 1 overall pick that they declined to draft him, Ward had better hit the ground running on Day 1.

Cam Ward is an incredible story. He rose all the way from underrated high school quarterback running the Wing T offense to first overall pick in the NFL Draft. Ward's only offer coming out of high school came from Incarnate Word, where he immediately became a star. He threw 24 touchdowns in just six games for his first collegiate season (shortened due to COVID). Then his production exploded during his second year where he threw for nearly 4700 yards and 47 touchdowns. After that his name began floating around as a potential NFL Draft pick, but he needed to prove himself at the FBS level. His two Washington State seasons were marred by inconsistency. Extremely impressive highlight moments mixed with far too many turnovers. However, after he transferred to Miami he took his game to a whole new level, nearly leading the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff with a 10-2 regular season record. Ward finished his final season winning the Davey O'Brien Award for best quarterback in the nation, ACC Player of the Year, and First-Team All-American status. He still makes seemingly careless mistakes from time to time, but Ward is a special quarterback. Credit: Travis May, A to Z Sports College Football & NFL Draft Managing Editor
