The Ohio State Buckeyes took part in Big Ten Football Media Days this week, which means the season is right around the corner.

Ohio State opens the year with a tough matchup at home, hosting Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns. It’s a rematch of the Cotton Bowl, where the Buckeyes came out on top with a 28-14 win in the College Football Playoff.

Former Texas head coach Mack Brown recently appeared on Urban Meyer’s The Triple Option podcast, where he predicted that the Longhorns will come into Columbus and win in Week 1. One of his reasons? The kickoff time—a topic that has sparked frustration among Buckeye fans.

“It was a wonderful experience, but you do not want to go to Columbus, Ohio, at night,” Brown said, reflecting on his past experiences with tough primetime games at Ohio Stadium. “I can promise you that. When I saw it was a noon game, I thought, what a great advantage for Texas. They don’t have to sit there all day, don’t have to be nervous all day.”

At noon, it’s gonna be a different moment. It’s gonna be loud, but it’s not gonna be the same as it is at night.”

This became a talking point during the offseason, especially after reports emerged that Ohio State wanted to change the game time—but Texas wouldn’t agree. And really, why would they? If you can avoid beginning the Arch Manning era in Columbus at night, you absolutely take that opportunity.

Fox holds the broadcast rights to Big Ten games and selected the Texas–Ohio State matchup to kick off the season as part of their Big Noon Kickoff coverage. The Shoe will still be a hostile environment, but there’s no question—it hits differently after dark.

A matchup between what might be the two best rosters in college football surely won’t disappoint, even if the noon kickoff gives the Longhorns a slight edge.
