Big Ten Football Media Days took place this week in Las Vegas, Nevada—a change of scenery that signals the college football season is quickly approaching for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

One notable storyline that emerged during media days involved a former five-star Ohio State commit who now plays elsewhere in the Big Ten.

Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola admitted he still holds respect for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, though ultimately, Ohio State wasn’t the right fit for him.

“It was just a decision that myself and my family made,” Raiola said on Friday. “I’m not going to go too deep into that just because I’m focused on being present where I’m at now. I still have a lot of respect for Coach Day and his program, but yeah, I’m happy at Nebraska.”

Raiola originally committed to Ohio State on May 9, 2022, but decommitted in December of that year. He then flipped to Georgia in May 2023 before making a last-minute switch to Nebraska just two days before signing day on Dec. 20. A major recruiting win for Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers, Raiola was ranked as the No. 3 quarterback in the 2024 class.

As a true freshman, Raiola started all 13 games, throwing for 2,819 yards with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Nebraska gave Ohio State a strong challenge last October, narrowly falling 21–17. Raiola completed 21 of 32 passes for 152 yards and one interception in that matchup.

Ohio State, meanwhile, landed Air Noland in the 2024 class, and later added Julian Sayin via transfer from Alabama after Nick Saban’s retirement. Sayin, also a true freshman, now appears to be in line to start for the Buckeyes.

While Raiola once committed to Ohio State, it became clear a few months later that it wasn’t going to be his long-term destination. Fortunately, there’s no bad blood on either side—something not always guaranteed in today’s cutthroat recruiting landscape.
