Former Tennessee Vols standout Ramel Keyton helped deliver some memorable moments for UT fans during his time in Knoxville. He'll try to help do that for another Volunteer State team down the interstate a bit.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Keyton is signing with the Tennessee Titans.
The addition of Keyton, who worked out recently for the San Francisco 49ers, comes hours after the Titans' roster took a shot with an injury to wide receiver Treylon Burks. Burks dove for a ball and came up in pain afterwords. He left and returned with his shoulder in a sling. It was further revealed to be a broken collarbone that, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, will keep him on the shelf for at least the start of the season.
The opportunity is an intriguing one for Keyton. Burks has had continuous injury issues with the Titans and is in his final year with his contract with the team. The remaining WR options on the roster beyond top wideout Calvin Ridley have upside, but they are mostly young and unproven. As such, the pathway to making the Titans' final roster is one of the more navigable ones for him.
Keyton showed enough to make the Raiders' 53-man roster last year as an undrafted free agent rookie, so he's shown the ability to overcome the odds once before. He appeared in 8 games for Las Vegas last year, with one catch for 7 yards.
We'll see if Keyton can end up sticking around and making the final roster for the second time in two years. If nothing else, it's a strong opportunity for him that Vol faithful should keep an eye on.
