The Detroit Lions really want to get a look at running backs this summer. They've already signed Jabari Small, and they brought in former Michigan Panthers running back Toa Taua for a workout. On Tuesday, they signed another running back, and this time they wound up with one of the best players from the UFL.
The Lions waived rookie tight end Luke Deal after an injury and have brought in running back Jacob Saylors. This is a guy who is coming off a season with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL in which he ran for 499 yards and five touchdowns en route to making the All-UFL team.
Saylors spent five years at East Tennessee State and was a solid running back there. He ran for 1,309 yards and 15 touchdowns in his senior season. This allowed him to enter the 2023 NFL Draft. He went undrafted and was signed by the Atlanta Falcons. He also had shots with the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals before heading to the UFL. He's someone to watch in these preseason games. He could have a chance to make the practice squad if he balls out.
