The Penn State Nittany Lions find themselves in the mix for the 2027 top overall prospect, Kennedy Brown. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound offensive tackle is considering all of the big programs you’d expect, but there’s a real question as to whether the Houston, Texas, native would ever leave his home state. Naturally, Penn State will be going against in-state powers like Texas and Texas A&M.
But that doesn’t mean the Nittany Lions are at a disadvantage beyond the required flight to Pennsylvania. The Nittany Lions have made his presumed top eight schools, also alongside Oregon, Clemson, SMU, and Georgia. His visit schedule is quickly coming together for this fall.
He recently explained to On3 what he likes about each program, and the Nittany Lions have a unique claim to his heart.
“They produce great offensive linemen — the top offensive linemen in the country year in and year out. I love that,” Brown said. He’ll be in Happy Valley on Sept. 27 when Oregon comes to town for its first showdown with Penn State while a Big Ten member.
He had a ton of complimentary things to say about each potential fit, and every fan base and coaching staff could walk away feeling positive about their chances here. For example, Brown likes how genuine Clemson has been and how well he gets along with Oregon’s coaching staff.
But feeling like he’ll be developed and drafted highly later matters, too.
To Brown’s point, here’s a list of all the Penn State offensive linemen drafted over the last five years:
- Olumuyiwa Fashanu, No. 11 overall, 2024 NFL Draft
- Caedan Wallace, No. 68 overall, 2024 NFL Draft
- Hunter Nourzad, No. 159 overall, 2024 NFL Draft
- Rasheed Walker, No. 249 overall, 2022 NFL Draft
- Will Fries, No. 248 overall, 2021 NFL Draft
Brown is currently projected to land with Texas, but only by a slight margin via On3’s RPM metric. One fantastic visit in a home win against Oregon could sway Brown to view James Franklin’s infrastructure as worth leaving his comfortable confines within Texas.
We’ll continue to monitor the latest updates and developments on Brown’s recruitment and Penn State.
