Alabama just sent Tyler Booker off to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but that apparently wasn’t enough to stop the Crimson Tide from being considered one of the best offensive line units in the country once again heading into this fall.
A trio of Alabama offensive linemen were honored this week on the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, a feat no other team in college football can boast this year. Does Alabama actually have the best interior offensive line in the nation like the Outland Trophy Watch List suggests?
Alabama trio of offensive linemen honored on Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List
For those unfamiliar, the Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation’s “most outstanding interior lineman” every year. The award can be earned by interior linemen on both sides of the ball, not just offense, but that’s apparently where the experts believe Alabama is stacked most.
No surprise, but center Parker Brailsford and guard Jaeden Roberts made the list. However, it was a bit surprising to see Kadyn Proctor on the list given that he’s played his entire career at offensive tackle. Regardless, it’s clear that Alabama’s offense line is perceived to be one of the best–if not the absolute best–in the nation coming into 2025 given this unbelievable trio of talents.
Despite the award’s declared intentions–meant to be given to interior linemen–it is often awarded to players who spend the vast majority of their time playing offensive tackle, so there is a real path for any one of Alabama’s best offensive linemen to win the award.
Last year it was won by Kelvin Banks of Texas, who played the majority of his career at tackle. The year prior it was won by T’Vondre Sweat on the defensive front. The year before that it was won by Olu Oluwatimi, a center for Michigan. Any defensive tackle or offensive line position can seriously win it.
The trick is, the winner usually just has to be the best offensive lineman on an extremely good team that makes it far into the College Football Playoff or perhaps wins the championship. That means Alabama will need to do much better than 9-4 this season if Kadyn Proctor, Parker Brailsford, or Jaeden Roberts want to win the Outland Trophy this year. That shouldn’t be a problem if this trio can protect Alabama’s new starting quarterback. Alabama fans just need to hope that whoever leads the team at quarterback can take advantage of all the talent in front of him.
