Oregon Ducks land massive recruiting win with a five star defender who should fit perfectly in Dan Lanning’s defense
The Oregon Ducks continue their hot streak on the recruiting trail with a massive win over the weekend.
The Oregon Ducks have been on a recruiting roll lately. Now Dan Lanning and his staff’s hot streak continues. Cornerback Davon Benjamin committed to the Ducks on Saturday, August 2nd, giving them their fifth five-star recruit in the 2026 recruiting class.
Benjamin is the 35th-ranked player in the 247Sports composite rankings, moving the Ducks’ class to seventh overall. He chose the Ducks over Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington. Benjamin is from Westlake Village, California, and plays high school football at Oaks Christian. He is a two-way standout for his high school team, playing both receiver and corner.
After watching his film, it’s easy to get excited about the type of skill set he brings to the Ducks. He is a long and loose athlete with excellent overall athleticism. Benjamin displays excellent speed when running down the field on offense and turning to run when covering opposing receivers. He has outstanding ball skills and is a fluid athlete with exceptional change of direction ability with the ball in his hands. Dan Lanning will certainly appreciate his aggressiveness in run support and ability to trigger and make tackles.
Benjamin could be on track for playing time early on. The Ducks are likely to lose starting corner Theran Johnson to the NFL Draft after this season, and the rest of the depth chart consists of unproven young players who Benjamin can see as his equals early on in 2026.
With the season just around the corner, look for Dan Lanning and his staff to keep the pedal down on recruiting as he looks to bring in one of the best classes in his career, and also perhaps Oregon Ducks history.
