Tuesday marked the return of Steelers practice as the team embarks on Week 3 of camp, and more importantly, game week.

Here were the key takeaways, with reaction from Tuesday’s practice…

Key Takeaways

  • Calvin Austin III misses third straight practice
  • Alex Highsmith misses time with his groin
  • Roman Wilson with a great catch in 7 Shots
  • 5-2 win for offense in 7 Shots
  • Will Howard exits practice on a cart
  • Roman Wilson and Aaron Rodgers hook up multiple times
  • Rodgers moves the team down the field in a two-minute drill, throwing 4 straight completions
  • Offensive line creates push in team run
  • Jonnu Smith exits practice early

Injuries

The big one here is rookie quarterback Will Howard. Mike Tomlin told the media that Howard exited early due to a hand injury he suffered in a center-quarterback exchange. Jonnu Smith exited towards the end of practice, but there doesn’t seem to be as much of a concern, or at least not from Coach Tomlin.

As for Calvin Austin III, he continues to miss time, and Alex Highsmith did as well with his groin injury. A silver lining is that the regular season is still a month away, giving those two plenty of time to heal from the bumps and bruises of camp.

Roman Wilson comes to life

It’s taken a little minute, but Roman Wilson had his best day of camp by far on Tuesday. A great catch in 7 Shots only began an afternoon that saw him and Aaron Rodgers hook up multiple times over the middle.

With Calvin Austin III banged up, Wilson can seize this opportunity and end all the discussions of the team needing to add another wide receiver.

Offensive line creates push

The defense in general, but certainly the defensive line, has been dominant for all of camp. So much so that many of the headlines during Monday’s day off centered around whether or not it’s time to panic on offense.

Well, between Aaron Rodgers showing up in two-minute drill and the offensive line getting some push off the ball in team run, it’s safe to say the Steelers offense looked the best they have all camp on Tuesday.
