The Miami Dolphins will finally, after two weeks of training camp, return to the field under the lights this weekend, as they open up their 2025 preseason slate against the Chicago Bears in the Windy City.

With so many roster unknowns and young players in position to play significant roles, preseason action this year holds more intrigue than in some previous seasons. The Dolphins’ secondary, which feels held together by superglue and duct tape with a series of offseason moves, will be one area that fans want to see more of. Plenty of defensive backs will get their first shot at what should be a wide-open competition for every position outside of Minkah Fitzpatrick’s spot. Key rookie linemen Kenneth Grant and Jonah Savaiinaea could see their professional debuts (depending on whether Kenneth Grant truly is considered a starter despite the depth chart listing and whether Mike McDaniel wants to play his starters). Fans should also get a first look at QB Quinn Ewers, who has drawn rave reviews at camp.

How much time some rookies see depends, of course, on what McDaniel wants to do as far as playing his starters in the game. When asked on Wednesday whether starters will play, McDaniel said he hadn’t made a decision, preferring to wait until after joint practice with the Bears on Friday to decide.

“I’m leaning on this date, early and often, and then that joint practice – full transparency, I haven’t communicated to the players either. We’re just, my eyes are wide open and we’re seeing what happens today with the football team. We’ll have a joint practice, and then we’ll talk about how we’re going to attack that preseason game, but I’m not allowing guys to look forward. The best way to do that is to literally give them no information.”

For Miami fans around the country hoping to watch and find out, the game will be available on a national scale.
