Oklahoma Sooners position coach is keeping it all the way real when it comes to plans to get two true freshmen on the field
The Oklahoma Sooners are going to do their best to get Michael Fasusi and Ryan Fodje.
The Oklahoma Sooners have pretty much always had decent offensive lines, or at least really good players on the offensive line. That is, until last season happened. There was not an aspect of that group that was good all year long.
But, the 2025 unit should be better. Now, I won’t say they will be elite, because we really don’t know with all of the injuries they had last year. But, we do know that the potential with some of the young guys on the offensive line, is out of this world. And, that’s what offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh does — recruit offensive lineman almost as good as anyone.
It’s very clear that the future of the Oklahoma Sooners is pretty much Michael Fasusi, the five star plus offensive lineman that they got in the 2025 class. Fasusi is going to be a cornerstone player, and an absolute anchor on the offensive line.
But the question has always been about when is he going to se the field? Even as a five star guy, most don’t see the field as a starter in their first year.
He and another freshman standout, Ryan Fodje, will be seeing the field in 2025 — that’s a promise.
Michael Fasusi and Ryan Fodje will play in 2025, per Bill Bedenbaugh
Fall camp is here, and the start of the season is literally in a few weeks. And with that, the Oklahoma Sooners have been going at it just about every single day, and that includes the trenches, who, have had a pretty good camp so far on the offensive side of the ball from everything we have heard.
The freshmen that are battling for a role on the offensive line, have also been great. And, the potential is insane.
“I hate to put unreal expectations on (them),” Bill Bedenbaugh told reporters who were on-site on Monday. “You know me, I’m an honest dude… We’ve had good players, really good, guys that are All-Pros. I haven’t had anybody like them at that age, just overall. They aren’t afraid. They aren’t afraid who they’re blocking. Whether Fasusi gets his ass kicked by R Mason (Thomas) or not, he ain’t scared. He’s going out there to win. Ryan Fodje’s the same exact way. He’s going to line up again and he’s going to have confidence. He’s going to learn from that.
“Both of them just turned 18 three weeks ago. That’s it, they’re 18 years old. So are they going to make mistakes? Certainly they are, you know what I mean? It’s really, at this point, pretty impressive where they are for that age and being here eight months… It’s not the flash things that they do; it’s not the freaky athleticism. It’s doing things right over and over. That’s not any position, you know what I mean? As of right now, they’re going to play. Whether they start or not, we’ll see. We’ve still got — I think we’re in our ninth practice, but they’ve proved enough to have a chance to get on the field.”
Many offensive lines experts think that Fasusi could be the next Lane Johnson, the Philadelphia Eagles right tackle, or Trent Williams over at the left tackle spot. Of course, Williams is the best left tackle in the NFL currently playing for the San Francisco 49ers. Now, of course, he’s going to be his own player, not Williams, and there aren’t any people in the building that are expecting him to be Trent Williams — its just a way for us to explain how good Fasusi can be.
And Bedenbaugh knows that, as he said he hasn’t had anyone like those two at that age, and that’s about as high of a compliment as you could get when you break down just everyone that Bedenbaugh has coached.
Fasusi and Fodje are two guys who can really be the anchor of the offensive line for the next three years, including this one. And, it’s pretty evident we will see them in 2025, it’s just about when. Maybe it’s against Michigan.
