The Miami Hurricanes had one of the greatest seasons on the offensive side of the ball in program history. Cam Ward shattered program single-season records on the way to All-American and Heisman finalist honors. Miami’s passing game was led by pass catchers now making their way in the NFL.

But now, the Canes’ offense will look very different, particularly at the skill position players, with Miami’s top six players as far as returning receiving yardage gone. Naturally, that means that a number of players further down the depth chart have a golden opportunity to make an impact in 2025. That’s particularly the case for 2024 top 100 player Joshisa Trader from Chaminade-Maddona High School, at least in the eyes of a writer from one national outlet.

ESPN’s Billy Tucker put out a list of top 10 second-year players across the country set have a breakout season, and he had Trader at #4 on his list.

This is what Tucker had to say about Trader:

“Miami fans may have expected more from Trader a season ago as the No. 6 receiver in the ESPN 300, but he was part of a very experienced and productive receiving room. He had only six receptions on the year but did start the Pop-Tarts Bowl and made three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. That flash will become more consistent this year for the Canes. Trader is 6-foot-1 with smooth, fluid movements and quick hands to pluck the ball on the run for big gainers. He’s a legitimate three-level threat. Trader will team up with tight end Elija Lofton to give Miami two breakout stars on offense for Carson Beck to work with.”

Trader is one of a number of young players trying to earn a starting spot in the offense, along with Ny Carr, Joshua Moore, Malachi Toney, and Daylyn Upshaw. Veteran transfers CJ Daniels (LSU), Tony Johnson (Cincinnati), and Keelan Marion (BYU) are also in the mix, with Daniels already emerging this offseason as a contender to lead the group.

Trader was banged up during the season, but the opportunities ahead of him weren’t there anyways, with as well as Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George, and Isaiah Horton were playing during the season. He did get the start in the Pop Tarts Bowl against Iowa State and totaled 3 catches for 61 yards and this touchdown.

We’ll see soon enough if Trader can indeed make the next leap, and it will be one into the deep end of the pool, as Miami starts off with Notre Dame and Florida in their first four games.
