Howie Roseman is shaking up the Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver depth just before their 2025 NFL season kicks off after making a trade on Sunday afternoon.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Houston Texans are sending wide receiver John Metchie to Philly.

The Texans will receive tight end Harrison Bryant in exchange for Metchie. Day 3 draft picks are involved as well, according to Jordan Schultz.

The Alabama product recorded 254 yards and one touchdown on 24 catches for Houston last fall.

He was having a solid training camp before being traded and caught five passes for 45 yards on eight targets in the Texans’ preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

He goes from one crowded wide receiver room to another. The Eagles already have a tough decision to make at the position. Jahan Dotson is set to earn the No. 3 WR job behind DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, but who fills in behind them remains to be seen.

Second-year wideouts Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson have made their 53-man roster cases, but undrafted free agent rookie Darius Cooper is on their tail.

Elijah Cooks is also turning heads, but is set to miss significant time with a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, Terrace Marshall Jr. has been inconsistent for a veteran.

With Mitchie now on the roster, this wide receiver battle just got ten times hotter, and it will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming weeks.
