A columnist who nailed his record prediction for the Tennessee Vols last season has officially made his record prediction for UT football in 2025.
The Knoxville News Sentinel’s John Adams predicted last season that Tennessee would finish the regular season with a 10-2 record and reach the College Football Playoff.
And that’s exactly what the Vols did (Tennessee finished 10-3 after losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first round of the College Football Playoff).
Adams doesn’t have the Volunteers winning double digit games in 2025. The longtime columnist predicted this week that Tennessee will finish the regular season with a 9-3 record.
“9-3 with a chance to tack on a 10th victory if the Vols get a favorable draw in a bowl,” wrote Adams. “That would give the Vols double-figure win totals for the third time in five years under (Josh) Heupel.”
Winning nine games in the regular season would be a solid year for the Vols — especially after losing starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava to the transfer portal at the end of spring practice.
Nine wins, however, likely wouldn’t lead to a return trip to the College Football Playoff for Tennessee. Based on what we saw last season, it’ll probably take 10 wins to secure a spot in the playoff.
We’ll see if Adams can nail his prediction for a second straight season.
