The Tennessee Vols are gearing up for the 2026 college football season. Despite having an unsettled quarterback situation between two talented but inexperienced players, Vol fans are feeling better than usual heading into the fall under the circumstances.

That’s in large part thanks to the yeoman’s work that new strength and conditioning coach Derek Owings has done this offseason. Hired away from Indiana the day after the Hoosiers captured the national title in January, Owings went to work on reshaping and improving the Vols’ roster.

Safe to say, the results are pretty compelling. George MacIntyre moved up 13 pounds to 208 this offseason, a move that was the most closely watched by fans.

But there have been plenty of others who’ve made compelling progress. Owings posted on social media the fruits of his efforts, and that includes RB DeSean Bishop who looks like an Avenger.

Tennessee football team nutritionist shares Vol players’ cuisine on social media

While the weight room and practice fields have been a major factor, so has what the team has put in their bodies. Tennessee football director of nutrition Katie O’Connor shared that on Twitter/X recently.

Not a bad menu to sit down to in the cafeteria, I’d say.

Tennessee football players have never been short of necessities in the weight room or at the dining room tables. But it’s about getting the right mix of training and protein/nutrition to get the most out of themselves on the field in the fall.

So far, it looks like the Tennessee players are getting the best of both worlds from Tennessee’s staff. And that should have Vol fans excited to see how their team will look and perform on the field on Saturdays this year.
