The Dallas Cowboys are still navigating a rough situation at cornerback amid injuries to multiple players including Trevon Diggs and third-round rookie Shavon Revel Jr, both of whom are expected to miss multiple regular season games.

The latest attempt to better the situation comes in the form of a free agent signing: The Cowboys are signing cornerback Michael Ojemudia, who most recently played in the UFL, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Ojemudia is a former third-round pick out of Iowa. He started 11 games as a rookie for the Denver Broncos in 2020. He hasn’t played an NFL game since 2022.

Michael Ojemudia is the latest of many UFL, USFL signings by Cowboys

The Cowboys are no strangers to making bets on players coming out of spring leagues. All-Pro specialists KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey came from the USFL. Additionally, contributors CB Josh Butler and DT Perrion Winfrey (who has a legit shot of making this year’s 53-man roster) have also been signed by the Dallas front office after UFL stints. At this point, it’s a familiar strategy for the front office.

Ojemudia faces an uphill battle to make the Cowboys roster but the team needs depth at the position and they get it in a player who had the talent to be a third-round pick five years ago.

This sure, however, looks like Ojemudia last chance at putting together an NFL career. We’ll see if the Cowboys manage to exploit the veteran’s motivation ahead of the 2025 regular season.

Cowboys projected cornerbacks to start the season

Assuming Trevon Diggs, Josh Butler, and Shavon Revel Jr. all start the season with injury designations, this is the five cornerbacks I projected to be a part of the 53-man roster at the end of the month:

  • DaRon Bland (starter)
  • Kaiir Elam (starter)
  • Caelen Carson (starter if healthy Week 1)
  • Troy Pride Jr.
  • Zion Childress (UDFA rookie)

In the preseason, Kemon Hall and Andrew Booth are fresh off of good performances versus the Baltimore Ravens. The Cowboys are dealing with injuries to cornerbacks Christian Matthew and Bruce Harmon, which prompted the Ojemudia signing.
