The legend of Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady has been a fascinating one to watch. If you think back to the 2019 LSU team, the one that went 15-0 and won a national championship behind quarterback Joe Burrow, Brady was considered the architect of one of the better offenses we have seen in college football history. It was truly a magical season.

Before taking that job at LSU, Coach Brady was an offensive assistant under head coach Sean Payton with the New Orleans Saints. Having never called an offense on the college or NFL level, it was incredible to see all that Brady accomplished in that first year. That year earned him a reputation as a rising star in the coaching ranks, and a bit of a boy genius.

In a recent interview on Pardon My Take with former Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron, he discussed his first interaction with Brady. It didn’t take Orgeron long to see how special he was as a coach, and he talked about Brady in typical Coach O hilarious fashion.

“Recognizing talent, that’s been one of my strengths as a recruiter. When Joe came and spoke to our staff in the summer, I knew this guy was going to be a great coach. Ray Charles could see that sh**.”

Since that magical season in Baton Rouge, Brady has continued his fascinating coaching journey. He parlayed that season into a ticket back to the NFL, landing with the Carolina Panthers. That stop with the Panthers ended up being a rocky one, and Brady didn’t even last two seasons.

The Matt Rhule era in Carolina was a volatile one, and unfortunately for Brady, he probably didn’t make the best decision on which NFL job to take. He has, however, since rebounded from that blip on his coaching resume. Coach Brady is now back on a strong track, currently serving as the Bills’ offensive play caller. Brady began as this team’s quarterback coach in 2022, but assumed the role as the interim offensive coordinator while taking over for Ken Dorsey during the 2023 season. Now he has everything aligned, having the ability to work with elite quarterback Josh Allen every day.

Even though Coach Brady has had such a unique journey, and has seemingly been around forever, he is still only 35 years old. One could argue that he is still very much at the beginning of his career, and he has already earned a reputation as one of the better offensive minds in the league. Brady’s future is still very bright, and who knows what is next for him.
