The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers came together to make some headlines on Wednesday night. With the news of the two teams agreeing to a trade that lands a former second-round pick, a much needed change of scenery is ahead of the 2025 regular season.

The Chiefs are sending WR Skyy Moore to the 49ers in exchange for swapping 6th and 7th-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. The 49ers were in desperate need of WR help with multiple top members from their room dealing with injuries, and most recently learned that a bench WR is likely to be suspended ahead of the season.

Now they add Moore, who is entering his fourth season in the NFL and the final year of his rookie contract. He will now have the chance to prove to the 49ers that he can be more than the bust many refer to him as, due to his lack of success at the beginning of his career in Kansas City. Though his time with the Chiefs didn’t go as planned, he will always be able to say he scored a touchdown to help the team win Super Bowl LVII over the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.

Why did the Chiefs trade Skyy Moore?

The Chiefs’ WR room has their own uncertainty surrounding it with the potential of a Rashee Rice suspension. Some may be shocked to see the team move on from Moore, even though he hasn’t been able to deliver on his second-round draft selection. Ultimately, it became clear Moore wasn’t going to be a part of the team’s future, and it seems beneficial for both sides to separate now.

A to Z Sports’ Kansas City Chiefs beat writer Charles Goldman recently shared why Moore could be an option via trade for the Minnesota Vikings, who are looking to add a WR. His explanation remains valid and sheds considerable light on why this deal shouldn’t come as a surprise to Chiefs fans.

“While the former second-round draft pick out of Western Michigan has fallen short of expectations, he’s a low-risk, high reward trade target. He’ll benefit from a team trading for him and showing belief in him because a lot of his issues aren’t talent-related, but rather mental, and he admitted as much just last week. He ripped off an 88-yard punt return touchdown in preseason Week 2, and seems poised to turn a corner with a change of scenery.”
