The New York Giants finished their undefeated preseason run last night with a defiant 42-10 victory against the New England Patriots.

With a Thursday night matchup, the Giants had an early edge in making cuts as they prepare to trim their roster. Midday on Friday, the Giants announced they’re releasing eight players to get ahead of roster cutdowns before Tuesday’s 4:00 p.m. ET deadline. Those that were among the first batch included:

  • WR Jordan Bly
  • ILB K.J. Cloyd
  • CB O’Donnell Fortune
  • ILB Dyontae Johnson
  • C Jimmy Morrissey
  • WR Zach Pascal
  • WR Montrell Washington
  • OL Jaison Williams

Many of these players were not expected to make the team since they were listed at the bottom of the unofficial depth chart during the preseason.

The most notable name was wide receiver Montrell Washington, a training camp darling known for his quality performance throughout practices and games. However, his lack of consistency and slow finish inevitably led to his release.

As The Athletic’s Dan Duggan pointed out on X, the Giants have typically released 10 players immediately after games and wait until the deadline to announce the remaining 20-plus names.

The Giants’ front office and coaching staff have a long weekend ahead of them to evaluate the roster and determine who else needs to be removed from the equation.
