Another credible NFL insider adds fuel to the fire by connecting the Packers to the Micah Parsons trade sweepstakes
Edge rusher wants out of Dallas.
Ok, the Dallas Cowboys might not want to trade Micah Parsons. They would want a big compensation in return if the drama reaches that point, and rightfully so. But if Parsons is to change teams at some point, it’s fair to expect the Green Bay Packers to be all over it. Earlier this week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared that the Packers made total sense as a destination. Now, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler seems to agree with that perception.
Jeremy Fowler mentions the Packers as a potential Parsons’ landing spot
On SportsCenter, the NFL insider reported that the Cowboys are unlikely to want to trade Parsons, mentioning “Herculean, Hershell Walker-sized offer” for Dallas to even consider the possibility. But when he talked about potential destinations, Green Bay was the first team mentioned.
“If they were to entertain a trade, there would be interest,” Fowler said. “Teams that make sense to me, at least, on the radar would be the Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, even some teams in Dallas’ own division, but it looks like Dallas doesn’t want to go that route.”
Fowler said that the Cowboys have received multiple inquiries since Micah Parsons requested a trade. Technically, it’s a contract year for the edge defender. He’s playing under a $24 million fifth-year option, even though the Cowboys could franchise tag him up to three times.
Why this situation is happening
While most NFL teams would prefer to extend their top players as early as possible, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have had a significant track record of dragging this types of negotiations. Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb were just some of the recent examples.
But it seems like Parsons’ situation is getting more personal. Jones alleges that he reached a hand-shake agreement with the player earlier this offseason and is reportedly refusing to negotiate with his agent, David Mulugheta. Meanwhile, Parsons said that they just had preliminary conversations.
With the regular season less than two weeks away, decision time is inevitably coming—unless the Cowboys are willing to enter the season without their best player on the field, and without any type of compensation for that decision.
