Packers can capitalize on NFC North rival’s mistake to add depth and strengthen a key spot on the 53-man roster in 2025
Vikings waived Logan Brown.
The Green Bay Packers have already made one move to strengthen the offensive line depth when they acquired tackle/guard hybrid Darian Kinnard from the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2027 sixth-round pick. But with at least nine available roster spots at the position, there’s one more spot up for grabs, and the Packers can utilize it to take advantage from a Minnesota Vikings’ decision.
During the weekend, the NFC North rival waived undrafted tackle Logan Brown, a rookie out of Kansas who spent time at Wisconsin earlier in his college career. The Vikings have Brown $244,000 in guarantees after the draft to sign him, but waived the rookie after the preseason in hopes to bring him back to the practice squad. The Packers could be on the way of those plans, and it would be a smart move.
A 24-year-old prospect, Brown had 82 snaps at right tackle and 23 at left tackle for the Vikings in the preseason, giving up three pressures. His main issue in the exhibition games was run blocking, with a 37.9 PFF run block grade.
A 6-6, 311-pound lineman, Logan Brown had a 9.45 Relative Athletic Score, including elite agility and explosion. If you see his tape, that’s exactly what he shows.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein gave him a 3rd/4th-round grade, mentioning he’s a “traits-based developmental tackle.” The Athletic’s Dane Brugler gave him a 4th/5th-round grade.
“With his size and athleticism, Brown reaches his landmarks in pass protection and shows the mobility for reach blocks, kick-outs and skip pulls. However, his upright pads and varying leverage points put him in compromised positions, and he is still learning how to get himself out of those awkward spots (see his inconsistent Senior Bowl performance). Overall, Brown’s untidy technique and lack of experience lead to balance issues, but he has an interesting combination of size, quickness and natural power that can be developed by NFL coaching. He projects as a reserve swing tackle with a path to becoming a starter at some point on his rookie deal.” — Dane Brugler.
Logan Brown is clearly a raw offensive lineman, which is why he went undrafted and why the Vikings are trying to squeeze him on the practice squad. Nonetheless, his high upside and athletic traits make him the perfect Packers target, and Green Bay shouldn’t be afraid of making a waiver claim. Getting a player of this potential for nothing, especially taking him away from a divisional rival, is something that should absolutely be considered.
